Enbridge’s relations with Aboriginal and Native American people are extensive. More than 60 First Nations communities are located along the Enbridge right-of-way in Canada alone. As Enbridge’s network expands, the breadth and depth of these relationships will grow.
Our Aboriginal and Native American Policy directs the methods by which we develop mutually beneficial relations with Aboriginal and Native American communities close to, or potentially affected by, our operations.
Enbridge’s policy identifies key principles for Aboriginal relations:
- Respect for legal rights, traditional ways and land;
- Heritage sites;
- Traditional knowledge.
This policy promotes the understanding of, and sensitivity to, Aboriginal and Native American people and the issues important to them. It is designed to ensure a consistent, thorough approach to consultation and engagement with these groups.
